Just sew it in. It works exactly like an acro tab. You can test different widths and materials to see what suits you, and even try really pretty buttons as a sort of functional decoration to your slings.

It wasn´t that I didn´t know about solutions to the grip problem. The problem was more that I have too much slings and I can just use a different one and lay that one aside. But these few minutes of sewing the tab on are well invested. This sling will be used more often now.

I have both. There are some slight differences. But yeah, quite similar. I'm hoping to do a comparison video soon.

The Youtuber Acroballistics invented a very effective and popular release mechanism.
We call it the "acro(ballistics) tab".

The acro-tab is a leather rectangle sewn onto the release cord on a sling.
Half of the rectangle is attached, and half is left unattached.
You grab the tab by hooking onto it with your thumb, and it acts as a sort of sling trigger.
It's very comfortable and perfect for release cords which are too thin to be easily pinched.

It was the inspiration for my button release mechanism.

You know, I've never actually see a photo of the button release under pressure. Initially I wasn't sure I would like them because of the round profile leading to inconsisent grip compared to the flat leather tab...but I see another benefit now. You get grip on both sides! Thumb and finger.

This effect would probably be less with thicker/stiffer cords, but still something to start thinking about...

I actually do make my cords really stiff these days.
I'm paranoid the button would become too loose very quickly so I make sure to make it as tight as I can.
This is an old photo. Literally the first ever proof of concept.
You can even see that the braid is just a short length braided solely to test the button.

Realistically the buttons on my slings are quite a bit stiffer these days. Somewhere between the tab and the above photo, I guess.

Edit: I found a good enough photo. These braids are really stiff, and they retained some of the shape they were in when under tension. The position of the buttons indicates the position during use.

I made a sling out of bale twine. Braiding this material was a little rough on my fingers compared to hemp. I also put some wool on the finger loop and the section of the release cord where I grip it. The sling works really good. It is a little bit stiffer than my hemp slings. It weighs 16 grams.

Baling twine is a great source for cheap polypropylene. But yes, it's pretty rough on the fingers compared to most natural fibers(except sisal). Wool is a good way to soften up your finger loop - or if you're lazy like me you can sand down the inside of the loop with a finger-sized rock

I've spent so much time on my polysteel slings that I figured it was time for some protection even though polysteel is already so resilient. Super thin junk amazon pleather so it doesn't add much weight, but should do a great job protecting against abrasion!
