I will slightly dilute the gallery of modern and high-tech slings with natural and primitive ones))
A sling made from wild plants with properties and looks like agave. When you get the fiber and slowly weave them into a tight pigtail. You can't help but immerse yourself in ancient times.

An ultralight polypropylene balearic sling(25g) - made from Tractor Supply's Orangeline 110lb baler twine.

I highly recommend this stuff! It incorporates into twisted strands really well without having to brush it out first. Obviously there's nothing quite as consistent as brushing it all out first, but if you don't want to go through all that hassle this stuff is a pretty good second place. And super cheap!

I get the used ones for free from a young farmer nearby. He learned that he should cut the twine of his bales near the knots, so that he gets 4 meter knotless pieces. He even brings them to my door.   Smiley
He got a sling from me and he can do figure 8, but I donīt think he keeps his sheep with the sling yet.

I didn't end up liking my twisted dyneema sling much, but I liked the process of making it so much and it was so fast that I had to do another Grin

2 strands of 3mm dyneema twisted into a rope with an eye splice for the finger loop and a backsplice to terminate the release cord. It ended up being too much weight on the end of the release cord so I undid that backsplice and tapered the cord down. It looks much messier now, but doesn't kick back on my finger on release.

I recently conducted a big training session for beginner slingers. There were 37 participants. I had to make a small mountain of slings in a week. It looks like I don't have fingerprints on my fingers anymore))

No, not all at once, not 37 pieces..I had a dozen old working slings. But then I looked at how many people signed up for training and urgently had to do more). But it was a pleasant job. Weaving is like meditation.
my small catalog on which I make slings. This makes it easier to understand what a person likes. In fact, you can come up with an infinite number of colors, and I also really like this in weaving. Complete freedom for imagination.

My newest baletwine sling. 24 inches. Cracks like crazy. The weight is 16 grams, what I would call "medium weight". I know that others consider it as ultra-ultralight, but in my world a light sling is under 10 grams  Smiley.

Brand new sling by Neandrthal.

No nonsense, tight, well made, cracks LOUD every-single-time.

This thing is a laser.
After slinging I was picking all my ammo up from the ground from a 2 m square. The consistency is amazing.

I absolutely love this thing.
Review incoming after more testing.

Love his work! Always so clean looking.

Very carefully tapered cracker there too, which is a first I've seen, might have to try it!

Looks like waxed paracord unless I'm mistaken. What's it weigh?

The cracker is very unusual.
It gives it this sharp, very high pitched crack. The sound is quite unique.

Yes, waxed paracord. I'm noticing some loss of the surface wax at the finger loop with use.
I'm interested to see how it stands up with frequent use.

I just weighed it: 44 g

Notice how sneakily he protected the paracord loop at the release end of the pouch. He hid it underneath a layer of leather.

Yes! I've been seeing this in a couple of places lately, it's a great idea. Shave the leather slightly before you punch your hole for the cord and it'll do a great job protecting the cord. Of course you need thick enough leather for this. His looks like two separate laminated layers right?

I imagine the paracord will hold up great now that the pouch connection is protected. That and the cracker are really the only places you'll see major wear, even for less abrasion-resistant materials like paracord. Maybe a little bit on the unprotected part of the cord near the pouch, but it depends on exactly how it releases - often the shaved leather on the pouch is enough.

The surface wax on the cord will wear off over time, but what absorbed into the cord will stay pretty much forever increasing the weight and roundness of the cord.

Thanks for weighing it! That was right around the weight I figured given the materials. Also helps explain the bonkers crack he gets out of it every throw.
