FloatingFlint, Great sling!!It's a great idea to cover a trap with wool-it gives room for creativity.

I'll be curious if wax will help that sythetic fiber survive. I've never had good luck with wax helping much, but I have very rough stones, even the smooth ones have a lot of texture

Do you folks think something like this might be viable and/or interesting?

This is just the pouch part of a netted sling. You can tie any length or type of rope to either end and have a full sling of desired length. It's durable, waterproof, and can easily be stuffed into a bag or your pocket and converted into a full sling using any random bit of rope.

I couldn't think of an easy or neat way of putting a loop on both ends, so I decided to use the button.

I started trying to think of complicated ways to tie the button to a bit of rope and realized the simplest way is the best. Just make a loop just big enough for the button to go through. It works perfectly.

I made 2 new slings. Both are 25".
The left one is a balearic style sling made out of loose hemp fibers. It is very slim and weighs 19 grams. It is the first one I made with 5 strands. In the past I have only used a 3 strand braid on my hemp slings. I want to use it with clay ammo.

The sling on the right is also something new for me: spliced dyneema (3 mm dyneema) with 2 mm polyamide cobra weave on the pouch. It weighs 15 grams and I tried it with tennis balls and it works really well. With splicing I got the release cord tapered for half of its length. I had no splicing tool so I made one out of an inner part of an old pen and it works perfectly.
I made the finger loop first and pulled the whole finger loop through the 3 mm dyneema cord while splicing the pouch. Absolutely no problem. And one tip to get the two sides of the pouch of even length on the first try: do not pull the first splice of the pouch tight. If it is loose, then you see exactly where you have to go through the cord to splice the other end of the pouch. Then, after you have spliced both ends of the pouch, pull them tight.

The idea for trying to make a spliced dyneema sling came from the sling I got from the SITH, because I got a very nice spliced dyneema sling and remembered that I had some dyneema laying around that I had left from making bow strings.
