It is counter intuitive, but this is not the case. The forces on both sides are different in a way that the resulting torque will orient it with the broad side towards the wind. This is the most stable orientation. In real life it can flutter and twist because of eddies and resonances and other effects. If it is completely free to rotate it can rotate like a bull roarer. The one thing it will not do is orient itself to least resistance.
I once threw a few styrofoam eggs out of the window to check if they really orient the broad side into the wind. Sadly they did

. Thats why we need the spin on our projectiles because otherwise they would orient their broad side into the wind.
You could make a similar shape like a flat cord out of styrofoam, poke an axis through it (a wooden skewer) and point your hair dryer at the profile. Thats what I did with the styrofoam egg because I couldnīt believe it at first.
