I just made my first (synthetic) wool sling with a woven pouch and twisted cords. The cords are exchangable and I twisted the release cord and the retention cord in different directions to minimize the twist of the sling when under load. Although the twisting against the twist of the wool is not the best thing to do, it came out ok.

The pouch is not woven like an egyptian one but "turned 90°". To the sides of the pouch I pulled a little more on the weaving wool and I layed some of the strings together (see picture).
I think that a nice split pouch could be made that way also.
The sling came out 35 inches (folded) and 9.9 grams (lighter than I thought). It is a little stretchy, but it works just fine.
What I found most surprising is how silent this sling is. Almost no sound at all.

It was raining the last few days so it was not slinging time but sling building time. I tried this design for the first time. It is a 4 strand round braid with 425 paracord. The split pouch part is woven with 2 mm polyamide. The knots at the finger loop and the retention cord are simple overhand knots, so there is room for improvement there. The cracker is cevlar. The finger loops can be used on one finger or can be seperated.

The sling is 30 inches and weighs 49 grams. I think next time I will use 275 paracord to make it slimmer and lighter.

I am not sure about that. The simple reason why I used it is because I wanted a black pouch and that string was what I had at hand. My understanding is, that it is the same material as paracord (Nylon/Polyamide).
