Man am I glad this battle of attrition is over. 11 strand braids are not for the faint of heart!

I was prepared for the knee and belly to be more difficult(although really they weren't that bad). But what I was not prepared for is the fact that it would take 3-4x more time overall to make!

Since there are more strands, each strand is smaller in diameter(I was targetting the same final weight as my 5 strand) which means that each pass results in less length and you have to do many, many more passes than you would with a 5 strand. Especially after the taper when the strands get teeny tiny! I swear that last few inches took an eternity.

When I finished, I told myself I'd never do another one of these...but man this thing is WAY stiffer than a 5 strand, even with my messy braid job. Significantly better angle control on release. I think it's going to be my daily driver for a while, we'll see if I feel the need to make a backup.

...and yes the dirty one is the new one, don't ask Grin

Just finished up this Balearic style sling earlier today. It's 20", made from 3mm cotton macramé cord done in a five strand braid, terminating in a nylon tassel, and finished by being dunked in beeswax. I would not recommend more than a dip - a dunk was way too much beeswax for this sling! It came out at 84 grams after dunking. It's a beefy sling.

Unfortunately cotton is a very stretchy material when braided, but it turned out ok after waxing. It's very stiff now, thankfully, and doesn't seem to want to stretch anymore. It was so stiff that I could, much to my amazement, crease the braids just beneath the tassel and fingerloop to form a Γ shape and hang it off the edge of a table.

This is the first time likely in over 200 years where a traditional design has been fabricated.

Yeah I like coordinating my colours . Nice thing about cotton macramé cord is that it comes in so so many wondrous colours, and the nylon as well - especially so. The unwaxed nylon is so richly coloured that in-person I almost can't even pinpoint whether it's blue or purple!

Couple balearics made from dyed black jute. Both 7 strand braids and 20" folded. 7 strand braids seem to have a nice finished feel with a lot of the material I'm working lately. Probably gonna be a go to method for me.

Here is a 26 inch sling I made out of kevlar. I normally use this material just for crackers but now I braided a simple split pouch sling out of it. I used six threads and made a "double three strand braid" for the retention and release cord (no taper). And at the pouch it is 3 threads on each side. It is relatively thin and turned out to be exactly 10 grams. The braiding is relatively easy (kevlar is easy to detangle), but on the knot I used some wax (like I do on the knots on kevlar crackers) and hope that it won´t undo itself.
The picture on the right is with a 50 g clay bullet.

I slung some stones with it. It works good, although the kevlar seems a little bit slippery and does not grab onto the stones like my leather pouch slings. But maybe when I use it more it will roughen a bit and hold the ammo a little better.

I would love to be able to braid, but my condition is such that I am not able to, nevertheless I am making slings using real leather and paracord. This particular model is for shooting vegetarian targets.

Just finished up this sling. 3" all cotton Balearic, in a three strand braid. Finished weight is about 1.4g

Also included is a picture of it in use, in a sidearm throw. Projectile weighs .21 grams, which will easily pop the clogs of anyone of a similar stature to Jeremy here.

I'm... never getting that half an hour back. But at least Jeremy is well armed...

I hope this slight departure from the more serious posts is tolerable Grin
