This particular sling is 58 inches from pouch center to the red release bead which is necessary for comfortable and consistent casts. Each cord is stressed to less than 20 pounds, well within the limits of the swivels which do a good job controlling the long skinny cords. Reloading can take less than 10 seconds but this is not a problem because I am not about to confront any real or imaginary enemies. My ammo is primarily baseballs which provide my 72 year young body much exercise. This last week the weather was cooperative and the athletic fields dry so I was able to manage several casts well over 400ft. and recovered them all plus some waterlogged balls from previous times.

The ammo exits the pouch through a forked loop on the front so the process is very quiet and sanitary.

The concept of the captive release is not mine alone. At least 2 other members have posted similar ideas. As far as I know my way of doing it is unique. My son Jax, also a SDO member has also used some of these slings and posted pictures in this thread.

A special pouch is required in order to completely avoid contact with the release cord.
The following method is for long slings and distance slinging, as such it may not have much appeal.
I have never used a spinning windup, I first face something like 180 degrees from the intended casting direction(right hand). Next, pendulum the thing “to and fro” about 2 times in a big arc.
When the sling is at it’s rearmost position (behind the back) start anticlockwise turn and cast either sidearm or overhand keeping the arm straight. It helps to lean the upper body to the left when doing the overhand, then you are virtually doing it sidearm.

picked up some paracord today and as soon as I got home I just had to make a new sling with it.
so I made this braided sling which I call the " rock serpent"
its about 21" from pouch to release, and shoots in a lovely straight line with the figure 8.
I had made a sling in this style before with mason line and tho i liked how it shot, i really didn't like the fact that the ammo would slip out of the mason line pouch.....but it seems that with paracord it holds the rocks just fine. must have something to do with the way the cord is manufactured, and i'm sure the size of the cord helps as well.

that seems to be the case. it feels really solid while whinding up to shoot

Hemp   1,5 millimeter thick.  They are made from 6 strands, the oldest has become so soft and flexible I can easyly roll it into a ball the size of a golf ball, yet it is a sling as good as any(personal opinion).
