I'd like to make a netted sling like that, a tutorial would be great.

thought about making a netted sling a few times actually. Kudos for the pictures though! im sure they sling well!

This is my attempted rockman sling. The pouch isnt too good, I tried to make the pouch really wide so I could sling tennis balls with it. But testing proved differently! With rocks its a really nice sling, the pouch is also weighted and gives you a certain feel you just dont get with other slings! The retention cord has an extra long strand because I wanted a louder crack Smiley

Beautiful sling, Kava.

What sort of technique did you use for the colors on the cords? Is it a type of wrapping or a braid around a core?

Here's my latest sling. It's essentially a Tut sling, but made of wool. The pouch has half of the warps that my Tut sling had. The cords are a 4-strand round braid and the finger loop is a 4-strand flat braid (not the 4-strand flat braid discussed in this thread: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1243262042). This sling is a commission, so I didn't have the leisure to photograph the process, and I won't have details on how it functions.

oh and timothy p hows that book on sling making coming along

Adsi,

Progress is slow right now. I've had a lot of extra work to do lately with beekeeping: hive removals, swam removals, re-queening, hive splits...etc.  This has taken a large portion of my free time, so the sling making book has had to take 2nd (or 3rd) place on my time priorities list. Hopefully I'll have more time soon.

That sling is juuuuust GORGEOUS!  WOW!

I am curious about how much drag the pouch creates, but the look of it--magnificent!  Shocked

cheers guys!

Smiley

umm I'm not sure how to describe the technique.

The knots used are half hitches and as such it takes a LOT of time.
In the main section the outer jute strands are wrapped by going around one strand and then to the next strand in a circular fashion.
the pouch was made with the basic figure 8 weaving for both sides.

the ammo in the pouch is a rubber band ball.

hope this is clear....

This is my first sling.
The knot at the end of each loop is a footrope knot (Ashley book of knots #792).

Is your pouch made of Suede? Or blue leather?

My slings. The orange and green pouch is duct tape and is interchangeable with the black one
