The first experience of making a sling from a single piece of leather. The production is not complicated, but you need to carefully cut thin strips, which should gradually turn into thinner ones. The skin also stretches quite a lot. Therefore, I pre-soaked it and pulled it out by twisting it on an iron rod and wrapping it through the rod of a screwdriver. After the cut strips were stretched, I began to weave them. I also constantly soaked my skin to make the weave denser. After weaving, the sling was also stretched and then dried and stretched again. At the end of the work, when the sling was completely dry, I soaked it in wax, and dried and stretched it again, giving it an antique look. When everything was ready, it took time to make three incisions on the sling basket to securely hold and release the projectile when throwing without delay. It is very important that there should be rigid guide edges around the perimeter of the sling basket. Which the projectile rests on and creates an impulse of rotation for the projectile. To do this, I bent the edge of the leather and stitched the basket along the edge.
But of course it will take some more time for the skin to finally stretch. So far, throwing it is not very convenient, due to the effect of the elastic band. Time will tell if I can tame a leather sling.
