When I do distance slinging, I don´t have the launch angle fully under control. It is somewhere between 20 and 45 degrees

. A few weeks ago I was practicing distance slinging with tennis balls and had a tailwind of about 5 m/s. My throws with the wind averaged at about 85 m, where as when I threw them back against the wind the average was 60 m. Wind is really a huge factor with tennis balls.
The more drag is involved, the lower the optimum launch angle is. The optimum for a 50 m/s shot with an old tennis ball would be around 34 degrees, the optimum for a new extra fuzzy ball launched at world record speed against the wind would be around 30 degrees. But often the real world does not follow the calculated numbers (backspin, ...).
Regarding theoretical maximum distances achievable with tennis balls: It all depends on the values you put in the calculator.
For example, when you assume that the terminal velocity of a tennis ball is 21 m/s, then you need to launch it at 110 m/s to get it to 100 m (no bounce and roll). When you assume a terminal velocity of 25 m/s, then you "only" need 70 m/s launch speed to get it to 100 m.
I like throwing tennis balls for distance, because I can see where the ball lands compared to the others which I was throwing, so I get instant feedback if it was a good throw or not.
