Excellent ballistics test video
Jun 4th, 2026 at 12:00am

This guy has a great throw for practicing for just a couple of weeks according to him! (although I expect that was an exaggeration and it was a good bit longer). He's obviously quite an active guy overall so I'm sure that helped.

I'm a bit suspicious of his chronograph recording 240fps (163mph) given how much more effort I've seen exerted on some verified throws at that speed(IronGoober, Primal, AA, etc) like maybe it caught the release cord instead of the projectile? But regardless you can tell he's got a ton of power in his throw, so credit where credit is due.

Fantastic footage with the ballistics gel! The rib setup in particular I thought was an awesome test to show just how much penetration power lead has. That thing put up no fight at all.

And I'm very happy to see he doesn't shy away from some good history after all the action Smiley

Lead or stone -just deadly!

Great video.

I always remind myself the sling is a weapon….and I best keep that to myself. When people at the YMCA ask I always say the sling is therapy to rehab my shoulder.  The sling is just making me do full motions while reducing weight and stress on my shoulder from normal, unassisted throwing. Guess its a good answer as no one has had an issue so far with me bringing a weapon into the YMCA!

Heh yeah, as long as you stick to tennis balls very few people will make the connection that it can be used to throw other things too Smiley

My advice if anyone asks(e.g. TSA at the airport, although I've never had an agent bother me after a hundred or more trips - or a customs declaration form if you're shipping one internationally) is to call it a "tennis ball thrower for dogs". Everybody's got dogs and knows that they love chasing tennis balls - and the proliferation of those stick tennis ball throwers helps recognition as well.

The video overall is excellent. The energies he is reporting are not correct. I don't know what his chronograph is picking up, but it isn't his projectile.

Happy to hear my spidey sense is working on that chrono reading. I figured I'd let the power experts give the final word  Grin

Awesome video! Love the thorough destruction of the ballistic targets he used. But what kind of a backstop was he using?? Im very impressed nothing pierced through it.

I am not sure, but it could be a backstop for archery.

Yeah, I wondered that myself. Very impressive, especially with those small lead glandes. Definitely has to be some sort of specialized backstop material, likely archery like FF suggested.

Good video. I'm a bit iffy on the history side of the video, as he leaves out some details (such as the Roman campaign for the Balearic Isles), or gives info with no source, like with regard to his comment on slingers on horseback. I've tried to find sources on mounted slingers but haven't found much... There's the "François Vase" from ~570-560B.C. that depicts pygmies armed with slings and riding he-goats into battle against cranes, but that's about it for mounted slingers in the art of antiquity. And I don't even know what to make of it  Grin. So it seems that mounted slingers may have been a thing, historically, but infrequently.

But I love the Colt Walker cameo at the 6:51 mark - I love good old cap and ball colts. And yeesh! That rib test is scary. I initially thought he missed, until he showed the slow-mo footage!
