Luke, the game you mentioned is Resident Evil Outbreak. Awesome idea, poor execution. While the idea of playing online with 3 other humans to escape a scenario is great, the game was plagued by all the Resident Evil staples mainstream audiences never liked (Tank-like controls, absurd puzzles and doors that never open with keys, but by solving some ridiculous quest)
In other words, it was a game for fans of the original game, newcomers to the series would say: What is this Sh*t? And the online servers are no more. You canīt play online, which negates the best feature of the game.
If you have a PS2, I recommend Resident Evil 4, my absolute favorite game of last generation of consoles. The Resident Evil series always had a distinctive Romero felling. The series was going nowhere after almost a decade and was at risk of becoming irrelevant.
Then comes Resident Evil 4. It discards the whole zombie thing and shifts to a Invasion of the Body Snatchers scenario, in which the enemies run, uses weapons and even talk to each other (they are not zombies, instead they have parasites inside them. Sometimes, you make a head shot and instead of dying, white scythe-like tendrils pop out an enemy and attack you. I donīt want to spoil it, but you need to play the game ASAP) The camera is now placed over the shoulder of Leon Kennedy (RE 2 guy is back in RE 4), the tank controls are gone and there are no fixed camera angles. It make a much more dynamic game. Iīm ranting a lot, but I was blown away by this game.
For a testament of RE 4 innovations, watch out for Gears of wars and Dead Space, which uses many of the things RE 4 started. Most notably, the over the shoulder perspective. Dead space is perhaps the evolution of RE 4. Itīs on the newer consoles PS3 and Xbox 360, but the game is a cross between Resident Evil, Aliens and Event Horizon. Itīs just like a big budget movie. Check out Dead Space in Youtube, absolutely terrifying game
