In case you didn't see the follow-up on my post
I saw it, but honestly, I forgot

And in your case, was the shape not involved at all? Was the surface the only point of engagement?
What drew me to the tips in the video was their shape—specifically the transition to the wider section, which essentially mirrors the shape formed between squeezed fingers. In any case, I’ve already ordered them, once they arrive, it will become clear whether it’s worth experimenting with them.

I can see the potential advantage of smoothness, and as a sound dampening release if youre going for a quiet sling. I feel like the cord would wear a lot where it connects to the metal. With that weight and no flexibility it has to hinge very suddenly right there.
As for the sound, I was planning to use a cracker as well, simply by inserting it inside. Although, yes, the pop would likely become quieter or disappear altogether due to the reduced elasticity in that area.
And yes, I also thought about wear at the transition point between that component and the rope... I think I need to see it in person and probably just test it out.
