It's a release tab. Some people use them either for comfort, or if I'm not mistaken (haven't tried them yet), to quiet their sling's release somewhat.

Yep, it's my first time I use a release tab, works great imo.

Wow, these are really good looking slings and the photos are excellent quality.
Here's a few of mine taken on a cell camera.
Black and grey yarn over hemp core .Blk and white over hemp core.
Sierra Nevada type sling with thick pouch straps Undecided

Sierra Nevada type sling , thin pouch straps with macramed protective pouch sleeves. Cool
