Challenge- reduced target — 10 meters distance
Aug 27th, 2026 at 2:02am

Hi guys! I suggest you take part in the development of a training target for those who do not yet have the opportunity to throw more than 10 meters.
The conditions are simple. 10 meters distance-10 tennis balls in a row. The maximum target is 80 cm. Square and 30 cm.Diane. We can make our own target smaller, so we will gradually understand which target corresponds more to this distance. And it is similar in results to the standard "Balearic-120x120 and 15 meters."   Once published, We begin to throw at a target resembling the "Balearic" but smaller. Gradually, we will understand which size fits best and establish a single standard. Everyone who will participate in this topic will greatly help by contributing their ideas and putting them into practice.

We train as much as we can. And we're sending you our best video of the month.  This is not a tournament, but only training and communication. Good luck to all!

Agreed. Let’s do a proper experiment and let the data speak. Great idea Serg!

“My final hour is at hand. We face an enemy more numerous and cunning than the world has yet seen. Remember your training, and do not fear these unholy hordes. I shall cast the first stone. That will be your sign to attack! But you shall not fight this enemy with stones. No! RAZOR GLANDES! Aim for the eyes! May the Lord have mercy, for we shall show none!“  -Jesus the Noodler (not the real Jesus)

Theoretically, if we reduce the distance by 1/3. from 15 to 10 meters. Then we also reduce the target proportionally by 1/3. Plus, you can slightly reduce the target for the arc effect.  Then based on these calculations. A 120 cm square target should be slightly less than 80 cm. And the circle is Diana 50 cm-33.3 cm. I think if you reduce the square by 2 cm and by 1 cm. Diana. Then the distance and the target will match even taking into account the coefficient of the arc during the flight of the ball. And we get a "Quadro" target-78x78, and a "Diana" circle-32cm. I will try to make a target of this size and compare it with the results obtained for a standard target of 120 and a distance of 15 meters. I wonder what will happen.

I'm curious to see your results Serg.  I'd like to do this experiment at some point myself as well.  I think there are factors that will make a target at a farther distance more difficult to hit, even if the target area is proportionally the same.  Environmental factors like wind are often mentioned.  But even if we ignore that, we still need to deal with projectile movement (curve), projectile speed, angle of release, and distance perception.  I think the distance perception will be a larger factor than it seems it should be.  I think something farther away is mentally more difficult to hit even if it's larger because you can see that it's farther away.  A small target at 10m and a larger target at 15m might not be that big of a difference.  But I think a smaller target at 10m against a larger target at 20 or 30m will show the difference more clearly.  I could be wrong.  It's not a test I've done.

This is definitely a concept worth getting some data on.

Joe, I totally agree with you that too many factors affect the flight of a ball at 10 meters and 15. Therefore, you should not mix two distances with different targets in the same competition. Therefore, we will try this format as tests and trials, and I think in a year we will already understand how it works. And the most important thing is whether someone needs it))... So far, there are not many people willing to throw 10 meters.

Hey, guys! I made the first scaled-down Balearic target. However, it was not possible to sweep a lot. The plywood on the Diana was thin and the target quickly broke. But I managed to make 5 episodes. The latest, best episode on video. It's a very convenient option for training. I came to the park by tram, a big target, I couldn't have brought it by public transport. And there would simply be no training. For me, such a small target is an opportunity to train more often in throwing at the Balearic target, even if it is reduced. And of course it can be made of fabric, then you can just put it in a backpack and go to the forest or park by bike or on foot.
