Stand alone/detached/independant paracord split pouch
Aug 5th, 2026 at 11:34am

Hey, folks. Does anyone know of or know how to make a detached split pouch out of paracord? My reasoning is that it would allow me to use the same building techniques used for the arms of leather split pouches but without the added material, cost, tools, skills, of leatherwork. Basically I’m trying to make a paracord split pouch without any arms (without retention cord and release cord). Just imagine making a sling with a leather split pouch but replace the leather with paracord. Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any questions. I’m not sure how well this will work when I figure this out. But it’s an idea that’s stuck in my head that I need to bring to life 😂

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly.  Here are my options for well-working slings. One is made entirely of paracord, the other is lined with leather. Both are divided into baskets according to the "balearic" principle. I'm a little more comfortable with my skin. Since the paracord cord is quite slippery, the leather provides better grip and control. It also protects the paracord thread from abrasion and such a sling will last longer.

Two 12x2cm strips of 2-3mm thick leather, a knife and a 4mm drill are all you need for basic leather pouch ala Pan slings. Tandy leather usually has offcuts or small peices if you did want to go down that route

Alright, after looking through the tutorials, these are the type of thing I’m talking about. A pouch without arms. Only difference being I’m trying to use paracord.
