It's Always Something
Jan 18th, 2026 at 4:38pm

Some of you might recall that I got what I thought was a groin pull last Summer.  The original diagnosis was incorrect.  I have two and possibly three hernias. Just what everyone needs.  I'll be operated on this Friday to remove/repair them.
If I was a normal sedentary geezer I probably wouldn't bother with the operation but I'm an active old fart who works out.  The operation is the only way to return to my active lifestyle.  I've been through far worse.
I'll be down for six weeks.  The good news is that once I've recovered I'll be 100% good to go with no restrictions.
In that I'll be sitting around for six weeks I'll have lots of time to make my SITH sling.

Oh, man. That is not fun.  I'm curious how a hernia ends up feeling like a groin pull. What sensations made it seem like a pulled groin?

Thanks guys.  In that I've never had a hernia or a groin pull before I had no basis for comparison.  Last Summer I developed a pretty intense intermittent pain in my right groin. I assumed it was a pull from doing Karate at seventy one.  There was numbness and swelling around the general area. I went to my family doctor and he thought it was a groin pull so I went with that.  For six months I believed it was a groin pull and I tried unsuccessfully to work my way through it.  About a month and a half ago I saw my Urologist but he really didn't seem all that interested.  Two weeks ago I saw my Urologist again for another issue.  I told him that I felt like my doctors weren't listening to me so he finally checked me for a hernia which he found.  He sent me to a surgeon who found the other hernia and possibly a third.
It aggravates me that this could have been dealt with a long time ago if my doctors hadn't been so lazy.  I should have known to be a stronger advocate for myself.  Anyway I'm finally on the right track.  Friday is the day. The dogs will have to do without their walks for about a month. It is what it is.  I have a fenced in back yard.  They'll have to settle for that for a while.  The Huskies are eleven and The Little Turd is ten so they have less energy than they used to.  We'll all be inconvenienced for a while.

Maybe you can ask a friend to take them for a walk once a week?

I agree that doctors do seem to be pretty lazy, and not willing to listen to patients' thoughts. I realize they don't want to be told how to do their job, but if they did theirs better then we wouldn't have to!

I think a lot of their laziness stems from high costs though (not that it should be an excuse). They don't want to send someone to get a test if that test isn't going to be helpful and just cost $.  It is a $hi**y system in the US.

Amen to that. At this point I could write a book.

So I had my operation yesterday morning.  While I was under they did something to screw up my back.  It's out.  I guess the silver lining is that my back hurts so much I haven't noticed any pain from the operation.  I'm able to walk occasionally with much pain, cursing, and hollering.  It is what it is.

The first hours after surgery are the most disturbing. You've recovered from anesthesia, and that's a good thing. You're back, and now you need to be patient. We hope for the best, may everything be fine with you. Let us know how your recovery is going.

Have you talked to the doctor?  Do they know what might have happened, or if that was a possible side effect that wasn't brought up?

Hopefully there's just something that got irritated and it only needs to heal up.

I see the doctor on the second.  My back is no longer bothering me. Sitting around is tough.  My gf Margie has been taking good care of me.
