Robbers are breaking into your house.  By the time you call the police and they arrive it will be way too late.  How is your home defended?
     At my house I have an excellent alarm system; three dogs.  Benji my little guy is a yapper and will go off at the slightest noise.  My other two are two large Huskies.
     Besides that I have an aluminum baseball bat by the front door and a 1906 sword bayonet that was probably attached to a Springfield at one time on the bookshelf not far from the front door.
     Usually Mike is upstairs in my attic.  Like me he is large and he has an excellent collection of swords and knives. 
     In the bedroom I keep a 12 gauge pump loaded with 00 buckshot by my bed.  There are no children here, just roomie Mike and I so there's no need to lock it up. 
      Besides that even though I'm old AF I'm mean, big, strong, fit, and have a lifetime of Martial Arts experience.  So don't break into my house.
      What are your home defenses?

This thread reminded me of a story I had heard about in my little corner of the world,
so I even got in touch with my dad to check whether I remembered it correctly.

The only break in we know of in our little village was one that happened in the nineties.
The burglar climbed in through a fully open window in the summer during the night (cause people would fully open their windows in the summer cause no one had AC back then), straight into the bedroom of an old man and woman (in their 50s/60s). He started rummaging through the bed cabinet on the woman's side, waking the woman up. She screamed "thief!", waking her husband up, and scaring the burglar. The old man got up (in his underwear) and started chasing the burglar down the street while the dude was screaming back "no, don't hurt me, I wont do it again". He almost caught him right before the dude jumped a tall fence and disappeared in a corn field.

My dad later asked the old man what he was planning to do if he had caught the burglar, he said he would have karate chopped him in the throat.


P.S. due to cultural reasons the houses in our little part of the world are usually right on the main street, with windows usually chest/shoulder high. The bedrooms usually face the street.
