Hello from Virginia USA

Hello from Virginia, my name is Colin and I recently fell down the slinging rabbit hole after seeing a youtube short from the Primal Slinging youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@PrimalSlinging), which then led me to watching hours of slinging content on youtube including that by Joe Meadmaker from this forum, and Practical Paracord, among others. I saw a sling that Joe purchased from the fine people over at the LaHondaTrenzada Etsy shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/LaHondaTrenzada), and decided to pick one up for myself, my first ever sling:

...
...
...

My cat Bugaboo thinks it's a new toy for him.

This sling is 30" made of pita fiber in the Balearic style.

Next I'm going to rub it with some beeswax and melt that in with a hairdryer, and then try it out with some tennis balls at the local baseball field.

I suppose my next stop is to check out your Sling Academy section so I don't end up cracking myself in the skull off the bat.

Anyway thanks for letting me join and I look forward to sharing slinging content with you.

Definitely check out the stuff from IronGoober, Archaic Arms, and David Morningstar.  All excellent slinging tutorial videos.

Welcome from sunny California! We're all glad to have you.

Checking out some tutorials is a great idea - but still it's possible to bonk your own head even when experienced. Or at least it's possible for me, and I might be a special exception  Cheesy I even bonked my head recently when using a 13" sling. Nice oblong stone, just clipped the top of my head. Hurt more than the other times I've accidentally done it.

LaHondaTrenzada baffles me. I assume they make their profit via shipping fees? Because 40-50USD for a quality looking sisal/pita sling with nice tight consistent braids seems like a steal. Sisal is really hard on the fingers.

I've been kicking around the idea of making a tutorial with my perspectives on slinging, but I'll hold off until I've gained a bit more ability, or throw the idea in the bin if I lose my elbow in the process.

Don't make the mistake that I did and think that your experience isn't worth sharing (I did that for many years). It definitely is, especially in such a small community.

Also, welcome Colin! Lots of resources here and lots of connections to other slingers if you have questions or want to talk about slinging. There are some discord channels and a subreddit that are a bit more active than the forum lately that are also useful.

Welcome! My sling is also a favorite with my two cats. I think I’ve spent more time using my sling to play with them than I have for actually slinging  Grin

It is always useful to film your throwing from the side. This way you will find mistakes faster and your throwing will get better every time. Good luck in training.
