3D Printed Ammo Mould and Wild Clay
Oct 10th, 2025 at 9:48am

Haven't posted here in ages but got back into slinging again recently. Probably hadn't since about 2014 when I met up with Curious Aardvark. He gave me a 3d printed mould all those years ago, but I lost it somehow, and after learning about his passing I was a little sad I'd lost it. But I'll carry on in his footsteps perhaps by designing my own stuff.
I wet processed the clay from dirt myself. Unfortunately it probably has a non-zero amount of poop in there as it ever so slightly smells. I did get it from besides a farmer's field. Probably lots of things in life have a non-zero amount of poop tbf.
I feel good about making ammo from the dirt, only to return it to the dirt. Feels very low impact.

They weigh 57g but they're wet so idk how much they'll weigh dry. Worried it might be a bit light. I think I might increase the size of the mould a little bit, as if they lose 30% of their weight they'd only be like 40g

Your estimation of 30% loss of weight could be close, but I would guess on the high end.  I haven't done clay glandes, but remember seeing posts about 15 - 25% loss.  Obviously that all depends on how wet the clay is.  They look good though. Thumbs Up

Glad to see you back here.  I hope we get an update on how the glandes turn out and perform.

I make a lot of clay bullets from wild clay. It often helps to dig an extra foot deeper to get way better clay with less organic material. I use portions of 63 g wet clay to get 50 g bullets.

Did the clay stick to the mould much? I might make another foray into clay glandes again. If you need some help with designing future moulds feel free to let me know Smiley

A little bit yes, but I was mostly able to tap them out into my cupped hand.

As a side note I believe these are mostly dried out now and weigh an average of about 42g, so they lost about 26% of their weight.
Little bit light I think, I'll scale the ellipse up a bit for the next mould.

A kibbeh maker works perfectly as a mold. Household foil helps you easily remove the projectile from the mold. The quickest way to shape is with a board. It takes some practice, but it's much faster than using a mold.
