I think they stopped spinning because of the headwind. Usually they don't. I might have not put enough spin on them for the conditions. The 'throwsticks' kylies are really well made, and have lower drag and higher density, so I've never seen that effect happen to them.

When throwing a kylie, a higher spin/speed ratio is usually best in any condition, especially if you have a kylie that isn't bent that much. The larger the angle of bend, the less spin it needs to remain stable. (by spin, I mean spin rate)

Ooh. I just looked up blackthorn. It is very dense. Should make a good kylie from that aspect.

Here, we have manzanita, which is very dense, but also very brittle and it shrinks a lot when it dries so it cracks badly. The density doesn't outweigh the other poor qualities. I've made a few kylies from it, 2 of 3 broke very quickly.

Oak is the best wood here that is native to the area.

The boomerang is a very interesting weapon and an exciting activity. Unfortunately, it's dangerous to throw real boomerangs in big cities. So I made a safe lightweight boomerang out of cardboard and duct tape. The weight of the first one is 30 grams. The second one is 46 grams. Yes, it doesn't fly as well or as far as a real tree. But on the other hand, you can practice in the city, at relatively small venues, without endangering the people around you. These are my first boomerangs. I really enjoyed making and launching them. I will experiment with the shapes and geometry of the wing.
