New Year's Resolutions
Jan 1st, 2025 at 10:16am

Many will say "I don't make New Year's resolutions because they're never kept."  But this doesn't always hold true. I've been known to keep one or two.
My resolution is to keep on doing what I'm doing.  I live a drug and alcohol free life, I eat a super healthy Spartan diet, and I work out every day... stretching, four miles of dog walking, Torture Bike (my stationary bike), weights, and Karate.  Not bad for a seventy year old.  Hopefully I can avoid any BS injuries or aliments and keep it going throughout the year.
Do you have a New Year's resolution?

I never try to make resolutions for just the reasons you stated above, I do find however that over Christmas is a good natural time to reflect on things and from that some actions do naturally emerge.

I've recently been doing a bit of bodyweight exercises and want to keep this up, either that or get back into the gym. I want to have a capable body into old age and I think the only way to do it is to hit the muscles, hit the joints and keep them strong. My job now is basically sitting in an office chair all day and it does not promote health one bit.
It's also nice to see some of the natural potential of the body, just feels good. Shame to be less strong than you could be with just a bit of work.

Another thing I've noticed is that I naturally tend to eat healthier when I've been active, just feels a waste to work your muscles then eat crap and make no gains. Likewise if you eat like a body builder then it feels a waste not to hit the muscles...

Seems like you are doing great for 70y/o or really any age. My current trajectory I don't end up nearly as active which needs to change.

My resolution is to finish at least a few projects in whatever meager spare time I have.

If I won the lottery tomorrow and work was a thing of the past I would flood this forum with projects I've been wanting to do for years. Oh and whoever didnt get a sling from me in the SITH would get one as well lol. Turns out being an adult and a parent eats up fun time like you wouldn't believe.

Update:  On the doctor's scale last week I was 224 lbs.  That's down from 265 last August when I turned 70.  70 is too old to be that big.  It's been a long time since I've seen 224.  I'm not done yet but it's nice to see some real progress.  I don't really have a target weight.  I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing for the duration.  I wouldn't mind getting down to 200.

Good work! Losing weight and keeping it off is a battle.

Nice one RM. I'm also on the way down, about 2kg (4.5lbs) in the past month. It's a good start and on my plan. Eventually I want to get down to 90kg from a start of 112kg+. That's 246->198lbs. So I'm 1/6th of the way.

I recently did this. Or close to it. I stopped most of my excess sugar intake and switched to diet sodas. I know... also terrible in their own way.  Grin But eh... went from 235 to around 200.

Heaviest Ive been was 250 at 6 ft 1 (1.85 m) and thats the heaviest I ever want to be. 200 is about perfect.
