Pumpkin Challenge 2024
Sep 16th, 2024 at 8:50pm

Pumpkins are hitting the stores, so it's time for the Pumpkin Challenge!  We've certainly covered a lot of different ideas over the past handful of years.  Let's see what we got this year!

This challenge is pretty open, but I'll cover the general idea.  I'd love to see some new faces join this one.  Any sling, any style, any projectile is fine.  Just make sure to keep yourself (and things around you) safe if you're going to take things to the extreme.  All you need to do is get a pumpkin and smash it up in whatever way you see fit.  Using a sling of course!  If you need some ideas, just scroll back through this board and take a look at some of the previous years.  It's perfectly fine to try out something that someone else has already done.

And last, there's no real time limit on this.  But by the end of November is a good point to try to get a video posted if you want to participate.

I got a good idea from a friend of mind.  I'm going to try to get it posted within a few weeks.  Let's destroy some pumpkins!  Cheesy

Here is my entry for the year. I included every single shot of the session, but cut it down to be less boring to watch.

More pumpkin destruction... Clearly I was much more tired. These shots are pretty slow, lol.

Awesome man!  We're on our way!  Your lefty is really good.

I got mine recorded today.  I should have the video cut together by the end of the week.

Nice work! I very much enjoyed that.  You're brave to use re-usable ammo. I hate retrieving it and also usually end up losing it. Thanks for participating! We seem to have fewer and fewer entries each year.

Yeah the bolts performed a lot better than I was expecting based on what I saw in the prior year's videos with rocks even of pretty good size. Even my wobbly releases did ok and took out some major chunks!

I was lucky to have a giant(well-mowed) field all to myself, otherwise I almost certainly would have lost them all and given up very quickly. Since they're staging all the hurricane cleanup there, they shut down the fields for normal activities or it'd be full of high schoolers that would be difficult to aim around Grin I can't say I was a fan of retrieval either, but it wasn't so bad because they were always very visible.

Thanks for the entertainment guys.
Joe gets my vote for sheer creativity.

Joe definitely wins this one. Unless there is another late entry. But the bar is high.

Thanks guy.  Cheers!  Cheesy

When recording this particular (pumpkin) challenge video, I felt a competition aspect that I haven't felt outside of actual live competition.  I will 100% put something like this together again.  If anyone is interested, we can start a topic to collaborate and figure out what everyone has the space to manage.  Find a few games that will work for everyone, and see what we can do.  With this challenge I was originally thinking about a timer.  But ultimately dropped that when I decided on ice balls for the pendulum, which requires me to run back in the house to reload.  But a timer could certainly be used over a specific shot count.

I was so stoked when I was only at 1/3 of my throws through 2 challenges.  Then that damn pumpkin messed everything up.  Grin

I will say, I'm still hoping we see Mersa pop in here and blow all our minds.  Smiley
