Hello from WA state/PNW!

Hey all!

Got into slinging after watching some of AA's videos in February-ish.  I'm at the point where I can throw for distance, so now I'm working on accuracy.  Been perusing posts for a while, but after I tore a chunk out of my release cord with a sharp rock and a bad throw, I figured I should start thinking about making my own slings.  So I joined to start bugging people with questions they've prob'ly answered a hundred times already.  😁😆

Welcome aboard! Archaic Arms' videos really are superb and I can only imagine they have drawn many to the hobby. Release cords are sometimes really fragile, yeah - I have a nice long Balearic sling I braided and I've had to replace the tassel on it twice. The second time as a result of the release cord snagging on some barbed wire and ripping out a strand right where I spliced in some polypropylene baling twine. Never pleasant to have to redo, but that's just how hobbies go - If you can't stick with it in the lows, it's not the right hobby.

However, making slings is really fun. I can't quite put into words how it feels hearing a newly finished Balearic sling crack like a whip for its first time - there's just something so fascinating about it, knowing you braided something that can break the sound barrier.

For thus says the LORD: “Behold, I am slinging out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and I will bring distress on them, that they may feel it.”

My outlook on life is Aristotalean; on seeing an Acorn I see a potential oak tree rather than Plato's view that it is a failed copy.
