Making lead glandes

I'm curious if you can make a lead mold very easy? Without some special machinery or tools? Can you make one from , let's say silicone or something? Can you give me some tips,or recommend a tutorial or something. Thanks  Smiley

What material is your mold made from Jaegoor?  You may have posted about it in the past, but I ran a quick search and didn't find anything.

That's a beautiful picture! Thumbs Up

I had two molds made. It wasn't particularly cheap, but it was worth it. I started with plaster and silicone. But that's not enough for a large quantity. I have Last year about 14000 shots were produced and fired  Cool

The model was Roman glandes from Switzerland. A lot of them were found on a battlefield. I use two different calibers, 40g and 50g, although I much prefer the 50g. I can train specifically up to 120m. It's all very time-consuming. I usually get the material from a roofer. But there is still a lot of work to be done. The lead is often very dirty. The next problem is the place to shoot. In Germany, shooting lead is banned almost everywhere. I am lucky That I can shoot at a clay pigeon shooting area. But this area will soon be renovated. Then shooting with lead will be prohibited there too.

An alternative would be Bismuth. Similar density, low melting point and no toxicity issues. Usually availble in ingot form on ebay.

Molds can also be made from soapstone. It carves easy, and can take the heat.

Is bismuth an alternative? Not in large quantities. Soapstone works. But you have to be careful. It must not get wet and it breaks very quickly at the edges. This makes the casting inaccurate and requires a lot of rework. For large Quantities not suitable.

Amazing work Jaegoor! Quite an impressive collection of armaments. I'd like to try my hand at casting lead projectiles at some point. How well would ceramic work as a mold?
