Man you got me good. I was so excited by the gland press I went to your Etsy store to buy a model to 3D print and ended up buying a whole sling

I get that all the time
The other week I needed to order some leather sewing thread and ended up ordering half a cows worth of leather... and no thread. (and thanks for the order, its the first sling of the new batch!)

Nice. I think a pantyhose on the mould could save you the talc. Thats how I make it. I didn`t have to the change the pantyhose (on my gland press
) for a few hundred clay bullets. I did not even have to clean it once!!!
My standard speed in making clay bullets is 3 per minute, but I think I could easily do 4 per minute if I needed to. The pantyhose makes it possible.

Do y'all go back and cut off the remaining flashing, or does that crumble off easily once the glande is dried?
Where do you get your giant blocks of clay from?

@floatingflint I must give that a try at some point!
@Rhodophyta I get mine from an arts&crafts type website, it's sold as clay for schools and is around 50c a kg. Clay isn't too hard to make though, providing you have clayey soil in your area.
The excess clay around the parting line generally breaks off easily, or you can smudge it smooth once the glande is firm but not completely dry

I usually run over the side with my thumb to smoothen the surface directly after pressing the glande. If I intend to use them for distance throwing I make it carefully, otherwise just roughly.

I get mine from a creek nearby. I dig it out from a top secret spot where the consistency and moisture content is just right to directly be used. I throw the clayblock about 20 times on the ground until the colour is even and I donīt see any more stripes or textures.

Guys, thank you for sharing the process of creating such cool flying acorns!! It is always very interesting to observe the process of creation. How the master solves a particular problem in different ways. It is very interesting and useful to look into the workshop of a skilled person. And priceless!!!

Thanks for the info, clay for schools it is. All the soil around me is sand-loam or silt-loam. No good for glandes but the plants sure love it.
