All natural sling
Feb 5th, 2024 at 5:59pm

Hi all

I love when the sling is made entirely from natural materials, and in my city I went to almost all places, and everywhere they only sell polyester plastic sewing thread. In online stores, natural silk thread is quite expensive, $16 for 4 spools of 8 meters. And I don’t trust my 0.3 mm cotton threads, because I think that silk or hemp threads are more reliable for sewing leather and so on.

It is also quite difficult to find sisal; instead of sisal, it is often jute in the picture

Maybe there is a natural sling lover who even sews the skin to a sling with natural threads like me, who knows where you can easily order international delivery of durable natural thread 0.3 mm for sewing leather?  Smiley

Ebay or amazon is your friend.
Plumbers supplies may sell loose hemp fibre for packing, in uk dirt cheap and good enough quality to braid .... if somewhat fiddly.

Good luck.
😁👍

I love natural slings, I've never actually used synthetic materials except for once early in my slinging days when I made a leather pouch slings with paracord for retention and release, and that didn't turn out so well. I used to have a problem with the end of the release cord coming undone due to durability of the material, though I've started using horse hair for the end and that's proving to be a lot more durable than other fibres.

I don't know which country you're from, but here in Australia it can be pretty tricky to find high-quality natural materials. There are some online suppliers I've found of hemp and linen fibre, and sisal string (though i had to do some digging). I've never been to a store that's sold anything but jute twine and cotton thread, so all my shopping for good material has to be done online.

Here's a site that was linked to me in another thread https://www.artandcrafty.com/en/
They sell esparto and by the looks of it plenty of other natural fibre, and pretty sure they can ship to most of Europe if you're there. Good luck!

Like me in my city, I couldn’t find anything except jute, cotton, and polyester threads.

Thanks everyone for the tips!

I tried to find natural threads for sewing on the listed sites, among a large mass of advertisements for the sale of plastic threads, it was not easy
I wonder if you have a natural sling but it is sewn with synthetic threads, is it not allowed for Balearic sling competitions?  Smiley

I also found something here:

1. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Charmkey-Waxed-Hemp-cord-a-Roll_160095360...

2. https://www.ebay.com/itm/126128793960

3. https://www.amazon.com/Hemp-Cord-Spool-10lb-White/dp/B006TODM7Y?th=1

4. https://www.amazon.com/Silk-Thread-100-Weight-Meters-Black/dp/B0018N7GZK

5. https://www.ebay.com/itm/293493427471?hash=item4455924d0f:g:k9EAAOSwRnNdUp~Z&amd...

6. https://www.etsy.com/listing/225913135/ernyj-elkovyj-katuka-iskusstvo-elkovaa?ga...

7. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/High-Quality-Soft-Hemp-Wax-Thread_1600599...

If you believe the sellers, these are natural fibers of sewing threads. Silk turns out to be the most expensive and rare, is it really that durable? One day, under threads called “silk,” I saw a negative review where it was written that instead of silk there was ordinary polyester, which is found in any store in my city, synthetic materials are not interesting, pleasant to work with natural fibres only.

What is your city Vin ?

I have dealt with a uk company

https://rope-source.co.uk/

Who ship to europe and america with some "interesting" thread.

Do you have Habadashery shops ? Sewing items ?

In the Uk these have been a good source for natural materials and the staff are always pleased to chat and help and have got their catalogues out to extend their knowledge and make money bu ordering unusual items in.

The other one is nettle fibre ... check Mr. Jaegoor on ewe toob for some detail on the cordaillot sling, 9,000 years old and nettle fibre.
Good luck.

😁👍👌

Hi everyone .  I weave all my slings from natural fiber.  I can buy the best kind of woolen yarns in Iran.  Completely natural threads and of course handmade
