I'm the real ale man.
In the UK the pub scene has now split into a few sectors.
I focus on what are known as micropubs.
In each town of say, 100,000 people there are usually 3or 4 of them.
Typically they are smaller scale, seating around 20 customers and though many have a full bar offering most focus their offer around a good range of (typically 5 or 6) real cask ales.
Conversation is actually encouraged and jukeboxes , piped music and games machines are rarities.
Old men's places .... not really, because of the laid back vibe most have a strong female/young clientele.
I like dark beer and would rather have one pint of strong, flavoursome and malty, not hoppy, beer than 3 pints of bland, over hopped yellow stuff.

I do like an ale too, but endured about 6-7 years of extreme hangovers before I realised that ale does not agree with me. Went back to the drink of my late teens and early 20s.

Recipe
Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit.

Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V (Oh, that Santragian seawater! Oh, those Santragian fish!)

Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (it must be properly iced or the benzine is lost).
