Anyone who's been on this forum for a little while has no doubt come across web links that no longer work. Links to external sites might be broken if the target resource has changed or is no longer available. And links to other pages on the forum can be broken if they were created prior to an update or change to the forum.
One of our newer members contact me about a specific link that wasn't working, and we had some discussion about the best way to report this kind of thing. I think it is an important subject. If a link isn't working then that's lost information. But on some occasions we might be able to fix the link or perhaps find a substitute for the information.
I'm starting this topic for the purpose of reporting dead links on the forum. Anyone can post a reply with a link that isn't working. And everyone is free to try to investigate to see what we can do about it. If we do find a replacement link that works, one of the admins or moderators will be able to update the original post that has the broken link. If you are reporting a link that doesn't work, please provide two pieces of information:
- The link to the forum page where the broken link exists. This will be the web address you see at the top of your web browser.
- The link that is actually broken. You can usually get this by right-clicking on the link and choosing to copy the address.
Here is an example just in case anyone isn't very familiar with this kind of thing.
Note: The following example isn't actually a broken link.

http://www.seekyee.com/Slings/howtos.htmYou can also give some details about whose post it is, but it's not necessary. We should be able to find it with just the link itself. I know this isn't the most streamlined way to do this. But I do think there are several advantages. An obvious one is that anyone on the forum can assist with locating a correct web link or possibly another source for the same information. And a second advantage, there is a lot of information on this forum and I'm sure many people here haven't seen the vast majority of it. If dead links are reported here where everyone can see them, new information might be brought to the attention of someone who may not have seen it otherwise.
If there's any feedback, questions, comment, etc., please feel free to post them.
