Atlatl is easy to make and that's its strength. I don't have any good natural materials yet. But I made a dart out of a metal tube. This is a support for plants)). The plumage is made of reinforced tape. The dart flies perfectly without a tip. I tried to put an iron tip. With him, the dart became softer and it became uncomfortable to throw. Harder darts are suitable for me, then they fly well. I think that's why ancient people simply burned the tip of a dart on fire, or tied a sharp bone or a small stone tip. And such a dart will fly very well.

@eino  How long are the atlatls? and how long are your darts usually?

I have a very short atlatl and my darts are also short (~5.5ft, 1.6m) because any longer and they flex too much.

My atlatls are about 1.5ft to 2ft. The 2ft atlatls seem to be too long for 4ft darts. I have 4ft and 6ft darts. I prefer the 6ft darts; they are heavier and have a nice forward weight that helps with accuracy.
Making the longer darts out of thicker material ensures that they're not too flexible.

Nice atlatl, Snow Serg! Smiley I've heard of using metal for darts, and I'd like to try it out sometime.

Once, Toivo and Eino were out hunting, and before setting out, Toivo told Eino to fire three shots in the air if he got lost, and Toivo would find him. Soon enough, Eino got lost, aimed his weapon up and prayed: "God, please let Toivo see my arrows!"

Эйно, The dart in the video is 120 cm. But I have 180 cm more, I like them better and they fly much better and further. This is a metal tube covered with plastic on top. I bought it at the sadovod store. This is a support for plants-the price of such a support is about 1.5 $ . It's a great option for training and shooting at a soft target.
