What's this sling style called? (Read 905 times)

Seems to be a good technique if you want to throw for power or distance.

Definitely under the umbrella of pirouette. I might call that a figure-8 pirouette because of the sling rotations in a vertical plane. The final movement is also very similar to a figure-8 style throw.

A pirouette style is often done in just a horizontal plane. Timpa has tons of videos and is probably one of the hardest throwing singers with this style. Here's an example: https://youtu.be/_6o5ZFGZyi4.

Here's another video that David Morningstar posted a while back. I love this throw. This was referred to as a pirouette figure-8: https://youtu.be/_6o5ZFGZyi4. I'm not sure if the movement is exactly the same as what you posted Franz91, but there are similarities.

It looks flashy, but a simple pirouette with overhead rotation will load the body and muscles better. It generates more time to do so. If you spin the sling too quickly, your body can't position itself fast enough to get an effective kinetic chain. I'm not calling him a bad slinger, I just think he's limiting himself a bit with the technique.

It is hay bale twine. I guess it is polyethylene as it degrades when exposed to sunlight.
