Another Habit Bites the Dust
Jul 31st, 2023 at 4:25pm

I've kept up with my New Year's resolution, believe it or not, and have been working out hard all year along with eating and living healthy.  But I haven't lost much weight.  I'm in really good shape, especially for a geezer, but I don't look it much. There are some aesthetic improvements but I'm still way big.  Last week I gave up on sugar.  I was putting brown sugar on my oatmeal and cereal.  No more.  Hopefully cutting these empty calories will turn the tide.

Good stuff Rat Man!  I've also recently tried to cut (most but not all) sweets out of my diet and eat some healthier things.

Sugar is a good one to cut out as we already have sugar added to so many foods its easy to over do it. One that Ive been trying to cut out is all seed oils. The more I look into it the more I see it has no redeeming value and causes all sorts of health problems.

There is so much in the average person's diet that we've been conditioned to eat and consider normal that is bad for us.

I started trying to lose weight about a year ago now, first thing I did was quit sugar. A bit of daily excercise and went from 112.7 kgs to 101. Have recently put 2kg back on as I’ve slipped out of my routine and don’t exercise as often. Sugar makes such a difference though, it makes you feel so much more awake and energetic when you’re not drowning in it.

It’s a constant battle for me, but one I won’t stop trying for haha

Packaged foods are full of sugar. Not just any but bad, highly processed sugars. I'm more than satisfied with getting my daily sugar from fruits, plus a couple of teaspoons of raw sugar for coffee.

Stay away from artificial sweeteners though, I hear they're even worse!

I eat almost no processed foods.  And I haven't used artificial sweeteners since 1981 when saccharin was banned.  They've come out with an endless cavalcade of artificial sweeteners since, all claiming to be perfectly safe.  They're all poison, no matter what they claim.  I don't trust the manufacturers' claims and I won't use them.

I try to avoid artificial sweeteners, too. They just can't be good for you. Aside from health risks, they don't taste as good as plain old sugar. Companies add way too much sugar to foods nowdays, though.

I've heard that processed lunch meats are also not good for you. Sliced meats that aren't highly processed and pressed are good, though. Plus, lots of lunch meats probably have nitrites or nitrates.

Once, Toivo and Eino were out hunting, and before setting out, Toivo told Eino to fire three shots in the air if he got lost, and Toivo would find him. Soon enough, Eino got lost, aimed his weapon up and prayed: "God, please let Toivo see my arrows!"

That's right, they always come out saying this or that new additive is safe, only to admit otherwise years later.

I used to think people that ate 100% organic were taking things too far but now I think maybe they were on to something the whole time.

I would gladly eat 100% organic but on Social Security that's tough to do.

Especially now.  Not to get political but our proxy war in the Ukraine has doubled the price of food.

Food is so expensive right now! Its gotten crazy and sadly I dont think we've seen it peak yet. Not only is food more expensive but the size of the products is often less.
