What Is The Oldest Thing You Own?
Jul 6th, 2023 at 4:34pm

I have my grandmother's Atwater Kent Radio.  I also have a Tommy Ticker watch given to me by the ancient Mr. McCann when I was a very small boy.  I'm not really sure which is older.
I also still have my first new two wheeler, a fire engine red 1960 Rollfast 26" bike.  It's in need of a little TLC but it could be made functional again for little expense.  Bikes were made of solid steel back then.
And of course there's me.  I'm pretty damned old.

I collected coins and paper currency once upon a time.  I think the oldest thing I have is a penny from 1917.

Rocks! They're pretty darn old. I guess it's sort of cheating, though, as they aren't manmade, and are all around outside.

The oldest manmade things I have would probably be photos and possessions from ancestors and relatives. This includes some type of old camera. I forget what type it is, but apparently it's pretty common. There are also a few old bibles, one of which has a long-since-passed relative's hair in it. I think they're from sometime in the first half of the 20th century or so.
I've also seen some tobacco and a carved pipe from a relative who was in the American Civil War, although that belongs to another family member.

Once, Toivo and Eino were out hunting, and before setting out, Toivo told Eino to fire three shots in the air if he got lost, and Toivo would find him. Soon enough, Eino got lost, aimed his weapon up and prayed: "God, please let Toivo see my arrows!"

I used to have a spent casing that would have been supposedly fired from a battle ship in ww1, not sure how true that was though. I have an old carving knife that belonged to my dad when he was 15. He would be 70 now so makes it kinda old !

Pre-American Civil War sperm whale's tooth that belonged to my paternal great-great grandfather who was a ship's wheelsman in the Pacific around Australia in the 1850s.

Here's something else old that I have... a 1906 U.S. Army bayonet.  It was my dad's.  I don't recall him telling me where he got it.  From its date I imagine it would have been attached to a Springfield and seen WWI action but that's just speculation.  A gazillion of these were made and many are still around so it doesn't have much monetary value.  It's still pretty cool though.

I do own a couple of Roman era lead glandes. After that, my grandfather's gold pocket watch from the late 1800's. i only wear it for special occasions. If I ever break it, he will come back to haunt me.
