Hands Free Driving
Apr 2nd, 2023 at 12:11pm

Right now the hands free driving option is meant to be just an assist.  There are still some glitches in it like its inability do deal with blind spots, so you can't turn complete control of your car over to itself.
In a few years though the bugs will be worked out and cars will be completely autonomous.  Would you ever be able to sit back, relax, and let your car drive itself?
For me the answer is no.  Call me old fashioned but I would never be comfortable completely trusting such technology.  I just can't see that happening.

I would use it and feel comfortable in situations where I know the computer would be better off handling the driving.  Like after a bar visit, or going somewhere while you're very tired.

I think the biggest issue for people will be giving the decision making to the computer in life or death situations.  Even if all the decision making of the computerized car is perfect, there won't be absolute certainty of no accidents unless the computer driven cars and human driven cars are isolated from each other.  Cars would need to be isolated from pedestrians as well.

And as good as they are computers, like humans, sometimes glitch.

Definitely not for me. As young as I am, I hate any smart, AI powered technology. It gets rid of all your privacy having a computer listen to you 24/7, not to mention the radiation - all smart devices emit a fair bit of dangerous EMR.

One day we will look back and it will be seen as crazy that humans ever had control of vehicles, given the consistent death toll that arises. Driving will become a lost art.

Not saying it's good or bad, but it will get to a point where having a human on the road will be considered a major liability due to behaving slower and less predictably, like an unruly cog in a high performance machine.

There will be no humanity. Just a high performance machine.
I'm afraid with this idea.

Soon there will be a country music singer singing about how his truck left him.
