Measuring Distance
Apr 1st, 2023 at 5:21pm

An e-slinger friend of mine turned me on to a free phone app which accurately measures distances.  Called U-disc, it's an app for Disc Golfers to record their games, but the bit that slingers will love is the distance measuring tool.  Drop a point where you are.  Chuck your rock(s).  Walk to your rocks, set another point, and it will tell you, plus/minus a foot or less how far you threw the rock.

Used it today to  tell me how far it was across this canal that I'd hit  my target (the rock at the base of that tree).  I marked my throw point, walked down to a bridge, across to the other side of the canal and then up to the tree... 93 ft.

This is one of the few places in my part of Florida where I can chuck rocks.  A hundred yards or so behind me a railroad track parallels the canal, and there are plenty of 'ballast' rocks which are the perfect size for slinging...  Best of all, this canal nature trail is about a mile from my house.

A good option.  A similar topic came up a while back in Other Topics with some other thoughts too, https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1669647976.

That looks like a great slinging spot! Thumbs Up

To measure, go to the "More" option (bottom right) and then "measure distance" under 'practice'.   You have to hit "set start" after it narrows in on your location and then you walk to the location you want to measure to.  You can save it by hitting "set end".  After that you have to put in an entry for the disc and throw style used (I just make up something). After that you can use"next disc" to measure multiple throws or "save" to save and end.
