Online Gambling
Mar 12th, 2023 at 3:04pm

I feel sorry for those who are addicted to gambling these days.  For most of my life most gambling other than church or firehall Bingo and dog and horse racing, was totally illegal.  Then casinos started popping up everywhere and now we have legal online sports betting and casinos.
I don't have the gambling bug, thank God.  Lord knows I had enough other vices.  For me a friendly occasional game of low stakes Poker among friends and twenty dollars a week of lottery is all the gambling I need.
I was wondering how many of us participate in online sports betting and casinos.  If you do, how do you make out.  Do you win a lot, do you find yourself spending more than you want, is it a terrible temptation for you, etc.?

I'm pretty young and have never been into gambling, though I can safely say there are more subtle types these days.

My cousins are into MTG (Magic the Gathering), a pretty famous trading-card game you've probably heard of. They have boxes and boxes full of cards they never use 'cause they're addicted to buying packs on the off chance they might receive a 'rare' card. They've spent thousands of dollars on that.

That's not even gambling for money, and it still hooks them! Similar thing with all the micro transactions on crappy little mobile games played by kids. This new generation is growing up with an entire new form of gambling, and they're getting addicted something bad.

No issues with online gambling for me.  Never did it.  The only lottery tickets I've ever had in my life have been gifts.

I have played some card games for money.  I've only been to Vegas once and hit the blackjack table twice while I was there.  Just $100 each night.  The first night I walked away $60 up.  The second night I was probably around $250 up at one point.  But as is the story of Las Vegas, I kept going and lost it all.  Grin
It was still a great time.

The other games have just been poker with friend for a $5 or $10 buy in.  It was just about having fun for me though.  I would have played even if there was no money on the line at all.

Never something that attracted me thankfully. It's absolutely rife today in video games, 'loot boxes' etc. Essentially legalised gambling for kids. Nevermind video game currency can have significant real life value these days.

It's an addiction that can destroy you financially and ruin all your friendships, and it's one people don't take as seriously as other addictions and aren't guarded against it.
