it's more the ridiculouls extended start up sequences that I find annoyinh.
At least the guy uses a few different styles.

I wonder if the step is due to restrictions cause by the armor (or something else being worn). Maybe the body can't twist and the hips need to stay directly under the shoulders.

I think the shoes are slipping and they take an extra follow through step. I'd also sling with a lot of slack if the ground was slippery.
I don't see any reason to not take a step on good ground.
