Long Drive competition - We need something like this

First off, have you ever seen so much testosterone during a golf related activity? LOL. I didn't know it was even possible.

But seriously, we need almost exactly this format. 8 golf balls 5 minutes. They have to land in bounds and final resting spot is the distance. It would be very entertaining to participate or to watch. We could even do different sling length classes. Or just limit the sling length and have one event... But I like the idea of sling length classes.

I think it's a cool idea. Same issues could come into play as any distance slinging though. Lots of space is needed, and you have to be able to find the projectiles after. Although that shouldn't be difficult with tennis balls or golf balls.
I like the idea of breaking things up by sling length.

It's harder than it sounds! Best I've heard was 100 yards, roll included.

Yep that's the beauty of using tennis balls, getting any real distance is hard and you don't need a lot of space.
But golf balls are fun
Getting them to in a straight line is tricky.
You won't do it with a sidearm throw
As far as the testosterone goes, it's something in the water over there.
If they held that comp in the UK, they'd be casually strolling back for a sip of tea between hits.

Yep tennis balls would be my choice. No losing ammo and the handicap is the same for everyone.
Golf balls would be fun as well though some of you guys might need to pack a lunch before setting out to find them.

You'd definitely get the best distances with golf balls but it might be hard to tell exactly where they land. I agree that tennis balls would be a better choice because they wouldn't fly as ridiculously far and golf balls do. Also they're bigger and consequently easier to see and follow.

There isn't a whole lot of variation with tennis balls though. Getting the difference between a good and a bad throw would be much harder, whereas with a golf balls it would be much easier. I think just appropriating the Long drive golf range is the way to go. Maybe not practical but a man can dream.

I just got 98 yards with a tennis ball and a 30" sling using a nice bounce and roll on the baseball infield. Separation between my best throws is only like 10 yards. With golf balls it's more like 50 yards.
