Castillian leather slings

Castilian leather slings. Typical Castilian cowboy slings, made of hand-stitched leather and finished in a silk braid.

I'm not Castilian but this sling is very thick.
Maybe there's a helping hand I don't have. I can be wrong but leather slings are weak.
Are they specifically designed for short-range fire ?
Just my first idea.

It may look thick, but it's actually very flexible. They are for aiming and it works just like a Balearic slingshot, at least for me.
These slings, were used by ancients cowboys in Spain.

Is a sling like this for sale or for trade?

Nothing weak about all leather slings, I've got a few.
Weak is definitely not a word I'd use to describe any if then Smiley

Very nice looking slings Oscar Thumbs Up

Very nice looking sling.
When I say weaker, I mean I'm more efficient with softer slings. Hence my question in term of distance and accuracy.
If there's a helding hand I don't have, I will be interested to find out.

You do tend to use fairly heavy rocks with all leather slings.

So yeah, smaller rocks don't really work that well.

Thanks for your answer.
My slingstone are 70/80 grams. No more.

You could make a thin sling from something like suede leather.
That would be flexible enough for lighter ammo.

The heaviest duty sling I have is an all leather sling with a round braid I got from a Swedish member, some years back.

Great sling to use, but you need a heavy missile to keep the cords straight.
It also has some elasticity.

I don't agree with you. I made a sling with leather of goat. It was very flexible and the sling was not good.
I made also a leather sling with a leather of cow, thick 3 mm, and the result was weaker with my slingstones (70/80 grams).
Today I think after this Castilian sling and your example that a leather sling must be thick. And probably it needs heavy rock.

It really must be thick. The Castilian sling is very flexible, despite being thick and works very well with spherical stones.

Beautiful slings!
I've made very similar models and enjoy them greatly!
As for the user wondering about efficiency - once it's broken in, a leather sling will perhaps swing a little harder cause it has some weight

Lovely looking slings!

You don't see many all-leather slings, or at least I haven't noticed many. I have the distinct feeling they would be very durable.

I did make an all-leather sling once out of a belt by cutting a slit down the middle and shaping down the rest of the body except for the pouch. It worked but It seemed to have some elasticity to it, which was unfortunate.
