Really Good Movies Almost No One Has Ever Heard Of
Sep 22nd, 2022 at 3:49pm

Here's a 1983 movie with Christopher Walken that I'll bet most of you never heard of.  Brainstorm.  It's about a scientist who discovers a way to record human experiences.  Sight, sound, taste, smell, touch, the works. Any experience.  I won't give more than that away but if you like SciFi movies this is one you should catch.  I can't believe it wasn't more popular than it was.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p6M-jw5_pQ

I don't know what else to say.  Watch it.
Do you know of any other really good movies that never got noticed?

Rat Man..you are really tempting me to hijack your thread with some horrible movies. (that I enjoy for how bad they are).

There was a film with Harrison Ford that I thought was well done, but I've never heard it mentioned before, ans it certainly isn't one of his better known films, "The Mosquito Coast". He plays a scientist that becomes obsessed with using his invention to introduce the novelty of ice to tribes in the wild that have little contact with modern man. It's fun to watch him slowly lose it throughout the movie.

A swiss tragicomedy from 2006: late bloomers (german: die herbstzeitlosen). It's about four grannies, who decide to open a lingerie boutique in a small rural village. A really funny movie, but still containing its fair share of tragedy and food for thought.

Threads get hijacked on a regular basis here.  I wouldn't take it personally.

I love horror movies and one that not many seem to know about is The Shrine. It's well worth a watch. It has sort of a twist ending that was very satisfying from a horror point of view.

I also enjoyed Occulus for a similar reason. You never quite seem to know if what you are seeing is really what is happening.

Saving Silverman is a REALLY funny movie with a great cast.  It should have been a cult classic.  Instead it remains obscure.  If you want to LYAO watch it.

Saving Silverman is one of my and my high-school friends favorites. It's great.

There was a film with yul Brynner, I think called 'the fighter'

Post apocalyptic thing.
Recommended.
Some very realistic violence, which really sticks in your mind, well it did way back then.
Apparently it was called 'the ultimate warrior'
Not in Holland it wasn't Smiley

I like a lot of films that get panned by critics, but they tend to not be unknown.

An old Western with Bruce dern: The Posse
One of my favourite westerns.

Love and monsters.
Very good film.
Ignore the absurdity of the basic premise: chemicals turn stuff into monsters, humans endangered etc, and just enjoy the actual story and the monsters.
Great family film.

Motel Hell.  Most people don't get that it's a parody of horror/slasher films.  They are horrified when I LMAO at it.  It's a really funny, borderline brilliant movie that's well worth watching.  The hogs head chainsaw fight at the end is a classic scene.  "Meat's meat and man's gotta eat!"

The Founder

From 2016, starring Michael Keaton in the role as the guy who turned McDonalds huge. NOT the guy(s) who founded McDonalds, mind you.
You can feel the directing and writing is lacking a bit sometimes but it gives the movie camp feel, in a good way. Also a very important story to tell.

It's often overlooked because Keaton starred in the terrible (but for some reason popular) movie 'Birdman' the same year.

Let The Right One In

A vampire movie with really well done writing and character depth.

The American version -Let Me In is ok but not done to the same level.

Kung fu hustle

Just so amazingly fun. I don't think anyone I've shown it to has disliked it.
