Atlatls are great, I made one from Yew, was supposed to be a short bow until it decided it was an Atlatl. Grin

The best/easiest Dart I found was a fiberglass driveway pole with an arrow on the end. Even keeping the fletching on the Arrow and at the Rear was interesting.

Anyway, they are fun.

Atlatl is a lot of fun! I personally love it. After the sling it is my favourite primitive ranged weapon.

One of the most satisfying trows of mine was hitting an old wheelbarrow from 40m on the first try. There was just something about the giant dart flying such a distance pretty much straight and then suddenly stopping and dropping on the ground against that big piece of steel. Managed to get similar hit only once and with a bow, but it wasn't as cool

I'm not sure if this is a condemnation of the sling being ridiculously hard or a side benefit lol. But I find if I remind myself how hard slinging is almost anything else seems easier.

Atlatls are really cool and powerful weapons. Its definitely a step up from the sling in a lot of ways.
