Sling ballistic test out at 40 meters agains 1/2 inch MDF board.

Here's the link: Part 1 https://youtu.be/d_rBhzfFS8c

Part 2: https://youtu.be/ZLW37p948_E

This test was done out at 40 meters. for those who have seen what a hammer does to the board, this should really demonstrate that an effective, 80-85% power with decent accuracy shot should be plenty effective at least out to 40 meters.

I think you need to provide a different link to the videos. That is the link for you to edit the video.

Good test.  And great hit at that distance! Thumbs Up

On another note, if you're going to keep making videos (and you should, you're doing some really cool experiments), definitely look into getting a tripod.  I made videos for quite a while just setting my phone on an overturned garbage can.  When I finally bought a tripod, I wished that I had much earlier.  It makes everything so much easier, and you can get better angles, etc.

You can get them pretty cheap too.  I use one very similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/UBeesize-Adjustable-Smartphone-Bluetooth-Compatible/dp/B0....  It will come with a carrying case, and a mount to hold your phone.

I'm not recommending a tripod because there's anything wrong with the way you're currently recording.  Just mentioning it because I remembered giving myself a hard time for not getting one sooner.

It would also be good to get the slinger in shot.

I watched the videos on silent.
Which I do a lot.
And it was you talking.
Some MDF with holes.
A static shot of the MDF in the distance with nothing happening.
Then you going to the MDF

No obvious indication of how the holes got in the MDF.

So yeah a tripod is essential.

I bought a real lightweight one from AliExpress for about a tenner.
Came with Bluetooth remote and bag.

Goes up to about 5 foot and came with phone holder.

Here you go:

4p metres is a helluva good throw at a target that small.

All you need to do now is show someone slinging  Smiley

Thanks, I definitely agree that I need to get one soon, right now I have two flat rocks I take places to set my phone against and it kinda sucks 😅

I agree, I do plan to get one as soon as I can just haven't as of yet due to some other purchases like the ballistic gel (BTW I will post a vid of that test in the future when I do get a tripod) and a chronograph for speed rating that'll be coming in here very soon. For that I'll try to have someone record for me so we can get myself and the chrono results all together.

I have a very similar tripod, same sentiments about its advantages.

Interesting test. I would be interested what a stone of the same weight would do, as many more people have historically used stones rather than metal balls. The larger area of impact would be interesting.

The ammo thing is an interesting point.
The chat I had with the sealed knot chap got me thinking.

A .50 or .70 used musket ball would actually make great sling ammo.

And part of a soldier's life would have been battlefield scavenging.
While a dented ball would need remoulding for reuse In a musket, it would be fine for sling usage.

Get a nice cupped pouch, use 3 or 4 balls, and you've got a 'shotgun' for hunting fowl and even rabbits.

So from the point where guns and lead balls started to be used as the primary battlefield weapon, it's probably likely that lead balls were frequently used as sling ammo in preference to stones.

As there's no historical documentation, this is just a common sense conclusion based on simple logic.

Assume our ancestors weren't morons and they'd use what was available.

Actually, I have a sling custom made to throw .54 cal musket balls and will give that a try on the board as well, although I am HORRIBLY inaccurate with them since I practice almost exclusively with 50-80 gram stones and steel and the lead is 15.4 grams. I will also do a test with similar weighted stones as well as stones in vastly different weights to show what they do in comparison.
