Hi all, just found this footage of the sling being used in a modern day conflict to lob homemade explosives at their enemy.

Disclaimer: In No Way Am I Condoning The Use Of the Sling In the Killing Or Harming Of Any Living Thing, This is PURELY For HISTORICAL Purposes. War is Ugly and Should Not Be Seen In Any Other Way

well conditions of usage aside.

It's cheap, silent, efficient and replaces a modern grenade launcher.

With the advent of gunpowder and grenades - this has to have been a really common practice.

I could also see it being used by 2 man teams with staff slings.

A loader and lighter and a chucker.

A good team would probably have almost as fast a rate of fire as field mortar. But without any telltale sounds or smoke to give their position away.
And considerably more mobile as well.
