In my experience the five most important words you can learn in Spanish are:
Caffe con leche, por favor'.
Coffee with milk please.
Otherwise they will only ever give you espresso.
Which is not a ,'drink' so much as a foul tasting legal stimulant

And yes many European languages have Latin as the root.
So many of the words are written similarly.
French, German, English and Spanish have a lot in common.
Dutch, not so much

Language is fascinating.
Just a shame I'm so crap at them.
We do have several serious linguists on the forum.
Funditor speaks at least five and can read at least several more.
Every now and then when you're talking to him, he switches languages without realising, which is fun and well as completely amazing.
