Multi-Pouched Slings Revisited
May 1st, 2022 at 10:08am

I did some more playing around with multi-pouched slings.  I'm doing my best to shorten things up on the length of my videos, so this one was broken into two.  All recording is done.  I just need to cut the second part together, so it will be coming very soon.  Enjoy!

Haha man that is very cool!

I've been interested in shooting multiple rocks at once as well.

A very quick way to get a lot of rocks down range per sling I've found is to make one sling with a really big pouch to hold them all in and stack them all up. Could probably make a leather pouch to hold that many ice balls I would imagine.

I made a big pouch to shoot big handfuls of gravel.

Looking forward to part two 🙂

An immediate thought that I had... Byzantine style would help with the tangling. Apache style would eliminate it.   I would love to see you give it a go with the latter. Although you might want to practice with a normal sling first.

Very interesting. I'm pumped for part 2.

Thanks all!

@Kordwar - Wait until you see the next one.  Wink

@slingostarr - Good idea.  And I have done that.  If you check out my playlist on experimental slings, I've got three videos on scatter (shotgun) slings: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLncv16P831PSJHZLp54PsDv1W9Gl1Z5eE.  One has individual chambers for the ice!

@Mersa - Thanks man!  Cheers!

@IG - Yep, technique wasn't great in this video.  That ended up making the split into two videos make even more sense.  I still jump back and forth, but things improve a lot in the second one.  Along with another surprise.

Isn't Apache normally done with more of an overhand release?  I guess a horizontal version wouldn't be too difficult.  That could definitely be worth a test.  I was originally planning to try a pirouette (even though I'm still terrible with it) but I just burned through ammunition too fast.

@TOMBELAINE - Thanks man.  And fair criticism.  Things get better in the next part.  And I'm getting some ideas so I may need to do a third follow up video.  We'll see!

Almost there.  Editing on Part 2 is going well.  It should be ready by Wednesday night (that's the current hope anyway).

Yeesh five+ minutes to load? It looked cool on the video to me, now I am wanting to try something similar. Probably just with 3 or 4 pouches at most though. Like one of your older videos, if I remember right.

Yep, the first one had 4 pouches.

And definitely do it man!  I'd love to hear about your experiences with it.  Maybe see a video.  Wink

If you have any questions on the slings I made or anything, don't hesitate to ask.  You make some really nice slings.  I'm curious what ideas you might come up with to implement!

where's the link to the first video ?

Missed that entirely Sad

But I can think of several ways to improve the sling.

First one is pretty simple.

Have all the pouches along a single length of cord.
You'd need smaller pouchs with a more aggressive cup - a cap paul modified design would work well.

Also be easier to load, hold, throw etc.

The other immediate idea would be a variation on my disc sling pouch, with the interior shaped for the ice balls.
As they'd be open cups you could simply hold all the cords and just drop the balls in - probably take a few seconds as opposed to several minutes.

Definitely interested to see if the four pouch one was better or worse Smiley

That's not a bad idea.  I might need to try that.

The 4 pouch sling(s) did work better in my opinion.  That video is my original post, but it's here: https://youtu.be/geFm-RwZTlo

And Part 2 is now also posted: https://youtu.be/X2tlgnpMw4A

yeah that's a lot more sensible.
Although I lost sound synchronicity at the end.

So it was like you were narrating lol

Anyway, all pouches on one cord won;t work for more then maybe three pouches as the shortest will basically be hanging straight down.

One at the bottom, and 1 either side of the bottom of the cord loop, could work.

Pretty sure ratman and jaegoor have done designs like that.

But with all cords the same length we can definitely make some serious improvements.

To start with, fix the cords together so that they only deviate at either end of the pouch.
That would give it a single release cord and single retention cord.
Which would be easier to both hold and load.

And with a shaped disc-style printed pouch, even easier.

I will, go have a play.   Smiley

I thought about attaching the release cords together at the end.  But I was concerned that because the projectiles need to push through the cord, and having multiple cords tied together would make that more difficult, it could result in a more obstructed release.  It might be totally fine though.  I can actually test that with mine.  All the cord have enough extra length at the end to tie them together.

That could be faster, but I doubt by that much.  Most of the loading time was spent untangling cords and getting the all the release cords lined up properly in the hand to keep tangling during the throw to a minimum.  Actually putting an ice ball into a pouch shouldn't take much more time than a cup.  Maybe a couple seconds to make sure it's seated well.  If the sling was set up so cords wouldn't (or couldn't) tangle, that would be the big time saver.

I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.  I've actually been trying to think of ways to get a cleaner release.  I was thinking about trying a sling with 4 pouches again, but do Y pouches and capture release.  Not sure yet.  That would take a while to put together.
