A publication in the journal Acta Carnuntina on the worldwide earliest identified and successfully tested incendiary projectile for the hand slingshot.

Fascinating, what did you use for the pyro compound inside the projectile ?

And a translation would be awesome Smiley

Never really thought about it, but did the Romans have a commonly used oxidising compound ?

The Greeks clearly did, but can't recall any examples of a Roman equivalent to Greek fire.

I vaguely remember mention of heated stones and stones smeared with bitumen in one Roman history, but I cannot remember the source.

they'd heat styomnes and wrap them in grass and the extra oxygen caused by the stone being slung, would ignite it in midair.

If you stuck the grass to some tar first, even better.

Mix the tar with saltpetre - and now you've got a half decent incendiary Smiley
