If it's not one thing, it's another
Mar 11th, 2022 at 7:07am

Been feeling a bit off for the last few days.

Now I don't have much feeling in my lower extremities due to diabetes related neuropathy.
I had noticed my left welly had got really tight.

And with the cry of: 'bloody hell you need to get to a doctor, thats infected !'
I am now duely awaiting the result of sending these pics to a doctor.

I genuinely had not realised how bad it was.

Currently waiting for a response.
These days in the UK, doctors are almost entirely remote.
So hoping all I'll have to do us pick up some antibiotics.

There's a pregnant hippo somewhere that probably wants their leg back.

Well I've got some penicillin to go pick up in an hour or so.

And an instruction to draw round the inflamed area, joining the dots up and see if it makes an interesting picture.

I may have made up the picture bit. Wink

Basically mark the infected area and see if it's expanded or shrunk after a couple days of antibiotics.

I'm hoping for shrunk !

I usually respond well to antibiotics, it's starting to deinflate Smiley

Only drawback of the penicillin is that I daren't stray too far from a toilet, but I'll take that over sepsis any day.

All things being considered, could have been a lot worse.

I think it was initially caused by a bite of some kind.

Odd time of year to be bitten by anything, but fairly sure that's what it was.
Not a clue what could have bitten me.

Clearly covid.

Err...yikes man. Thats no good at all. I was bitten by a mosquito on my kneecap once and it got infected like that. Everytime I bent my knee it would bleed. Im glad you got antibiotics. Sepsis will get you fast if you arent careful.

pretty good, got a second week of the antibiotics.
Both legs the same size now, and the wound thingy has finally stopped weeping today.

So should be back to normal soon Smiley

The whole online doctor thing is a LOT less hassle than the old way.

Just phoned the surgery, they sent me a link, I uploaded a few photos, shortly thereafter a doctor phoned me up and agreed I needed another weeks worth of antibiotics.

All done and dusted in about an hour.
All I had to do was go pick the prescription up from the chemists.

It can take weeks to get an actual 'in person go to the surgery' appointment.

No time wasted by anyone, this way Smiley

So got the wood for the pinball machine today.
I'll start on the final cutting and drilling tomorrow Smiley

I was avoiding the shed, on account of the number of things I could catch the leg on.

So not a bad day today.

Bought an 8x4 feet sheet of 12mm hardwood plywood and got that cut to rough sizes.

Then in the charity box of 'scraps' on the way out of the shop, there was an entire sheet of 9mm ply (cut just small enough to fit in the car) as well as smaller assorted useful looking odds and ends.
So that went into the trolley as well, and i donated the change from the 12mm sheet to the charity box - at the moment it's all going to the ukraine.

All in all 2x 8x4 plywood sheets for £40.
£34 for the 12mm and £6 for the 9 Smiley

I'll probably use the 9mm for things like the backbox screen shroud.
And just useful stuff to have.

So , yep more or less healthy again Smiley

I still swear it was a bite of some kind that started it all off.
But what and where - not a bloody clue.

yep Smiley
Technically it's 2440x1220mm
But 8x4 feet is easier to visualise lol

And I do tend to mix my measurments.

Mind you it's not just me.
Bought a bandsaw blade recently.
Ebay listing stated: 16tpi, 1/2 inch width and 224 cm total length.

Had to back convert as I was looking for 88 inches Smiley

most people in the uk tend to mix and match, lol

I only ever used metric at school, but my parents used feet an inches.

I tend to use, millimetres for anything shorter than an inch and then feet metres and miles.
I don;t know anyone in the uk who uses kilometres.

The worst is that I've only ever bought petrol/gas in litres, but car manufacturers only ever give car efficiency numbers in miles per gallons.

And american gallon are approx a litre smaller than a standard imperial gallon.

And we use pints for liquid, never quarts.

You can see why that mars probe went awol a few years back.
The british team were working in metric and the us side in imperial.

that's amusing. Tradition dies hard. 8x4 x 12mm amuses me for some reason. Here in the states about the only metric we do is our Soda Pop. We buy that in 2 Liters. Everything else is in imperial.

Actually I take that back. I have 3 sets of socket wrenches because my lawnmower is in mm. And then I needed an extra deep socket. So socket wrenches too.

But even inside pure Metric countries there are differences in how people think. I've heard UK cooking shows talk about "300 mils" of some liquid but when I watched a Scandenavian cooking show he talked about "deciliters" which is a quite proper measurement but not used much.

Yeah, it's like how nobody uses  yards.

Perfectly good unit of measurement, but even mountains are measured in feet or metres.
Nobody ever uses yards.

When I watched baseball I always used to mentally convert home runs into yards.
300 feet sounds like a long way to hit a baseball, but 100 yards, not so much Wink

It's only athletics that seem to use yards.
The 300 foot dash, weirdly, just doesn't sound right.

When someone appears on the 3dprinting forum, complaining that their software won't work properly. It's invariably because they are american and trying to use inches.

Pretty much all cad software works best in mils and all slicing software is only done in mm.
You can convert, but it's never quite right.

When you're regularly working in tenths and hundredths of a millimetre, 32ths of an inch, just make little sense.

So yeah, Britain is a weird place in that respect (and many others)
