Another kind of pirouette throw?
Feb 12th, 2022 at 11:22am

I came across this video.  It may have been linked here somewhere before but I don't remember seeing it.

It's the normal concept of people who haven't used a sling before being given a beginner tutorial.  But one of the people does a pretty cool looking throw at 3:09.  The movement will be limited to a sling shorter than the arm because the sling is rotated toward the body.  I don't think there's any particular benefit to it as a style, but it looks cool.

I haven't tried it.  All the snow at my house is melting, so now the whole yard is wet and muddy.  So there's no turning around when trying to sling.  Grin

I'm gonna have to try the wrist strap retention cord one of these days. I wonder what the pros and cons to it are

It just looks like they’re getting extra rotation on a sidearm throw of sorts.  Here’s another Similar one from Iran:

lol the chap in shorts picked it up quite quickly, the woman just kept trying to throw it with her arm.

There are a bunch of guam videos where they do a double rotation throw.
Seems to be very good for distance and removes a lot of the limitations of a standard pirouette.

But as far as I cna see, all the throws in the two videos are just standard sidearm throws.

I promise I'm not meaning to start up the whole 'style' discussion again, but I'm curious about this phrasing.  If the word 'standard' was just a general description, I'm totally fine with that.  But is there something that makes a sling throw a non-standard sidearm throw?

Is this a 'standard' sidearm throw?

I think this is the “gold standard” for sidearm form:
