The Acheulean Hand Ax

I was reading a book, Bones of Contention a Creationists view of human fossils, and I came across this very interesting weapon the Acheulean hand ax. It is thrown like a discus and has a range of about 200 ft.

Clearly they could be easily thrown, or she would not have been able to do the experiment. If only the two ends were sharpened, it could be gripped along the edges without harm. It's certainly a new angle
