If you could use the same username you use on the forum - that would make life sooo much easier for everybody.

Click the little gear icon at the bottom of the screen to change the chatroom nickname

You don't need to create an account, just use it as a guest.

Seems to Work as well on phones and tablets as pc's.

One of the biggest problems I see is that this is an international forum. We cover a helluva lot of timezones and, trust me, I know how problematic timezones and communication can be. There are already two slinging Discord groups (or is it boards? Whatever, "places" I guess) and a Reddit page so I don't know if this is all that necessary. I get the not wanting to sign up for stuff, but still.

discord is just a mess.
Although it's probably just that I'm not a millenial. But just could not make any sense of it at all.
what the hell is reddit ?

Chatrooms are simple, require no user accounts or signing in.

It's an effortless communication method.

And i did say 'experimental'.

Given how mauch wingeing I've had over the last 10 years or so about 'why don;t we have a chat room'.

I thought I'd give it a go.

But now - wall to wall moriaties

This works on all devices, just one click to join in.
You can watch telly or listen to the radio while you chat.

No video or audio to bother with.

It's almost as if it's too easy....

well it still remains a different and odd website that requires an account and password.

So I think a standard chatroom still has the edge.

And the small matter of a slinging.org chatroom - being on slinging.org.

The odd thing is for a chap who's a professional tech expert - I just really hate social media.
And a lot of it is from the software point of view.

Most social media software sucks a lot of data, requires a lot more info from you than is ever necessary.
And to distuinguish it from all the other social media facebook wannabees, they all come up with some janky arse software.

Oh and most of the recent ones have some kind of social gimmick to suck the 'youth' in.

No matter what any of the people behind a software platform claim - they ALL want to be billionaires.
Either that or they're not human and the AI's are way more advanced than anyone realises and are just taking over the world by stealth

Actually more likely than most people realise.
Given that the most powerful AI's are all 'owned' by commercial entities. Yeah they'd start up social media platforms.

I'm not anti social, I just hate 'social' media lol

Unfortunately the network effect is very strong and the convenience they offer is difficult to say no to. For a more modern 'discord-like' approach you could look into Matrix which is more privacy respecting.
